Danielle Sozio & Jaclyn Squillace
Danielle Sozio & Jaclyn Squillace
Before you read Danielle's story, please know that she will forever live on in our hearts and will forever be a part of the Jammin for Jaclyn family. Her father Lou, set up a $500 memorial scholarship in her name called "Danielle Canton Sozio Memorial Scholarship" given to a graduating senior of Sayreville War Memorial High School who is a special education student, each year. He knew, as all of her students, faculty, friends and family did, that teaching was her passion. The memorial hangs in Arleth Elementary School in Sayreville, where she taught many grateful students.
Danielle is a first grade teacher at Arleth Elementary School in Sayreville. On January 2, 2014, 3 days after Danielle's 30th birthday and just 5 months after getting married to the love of her life, Danielle was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer that had spread to her bones, liver, lungs, spine, skin, and her brain. Since her diagnosis, Danielle has had to leave her job as a teacher to focus on her recovery and countless doctor, radiation, chemotherapy, non-FDA approved Trials, and other medical appointments. In January 2015, Danielle was ecstatic to be able to return to work, while still undergoing chemotherapy treatments after school; so that she could continue her love of teaching her children here in Sayreville. Her illness has put a hold on any family planning at this time, so her students really are "her kids." In July 2016, Danielle's trial stopped being beneficial for her, so she, her husband and father as well as her doctors at Sloan Kettering had to find something else for Danielle to continue her battle. After trying several different treatment options, they found a costly mix of medications to try and help Danielle continue her battle. It was with a heavy heart that we had to let all of our supporters know that our beautiful, brave, strong Danielle had passed on March 18th 2017. She was with her loved ones by her side and she is at peace now. Please send strength to all of those that know and love her. She will forever be a part of the Jammin for Jaclyn family.
